My goal is to capture on video my world from a bicycle, which includes, fun, friends, racing, occasional pain and frequent periods of pure joy! (and share my massive *a-hem* knowledge about cycling)

Training on Route Z
[Special Note: I have a "Music Player" gadget, 4th down to the right. You may run audio from it or the video as you see fit by pausing the music player or muting the embedded video. Enjoy!]
Route Z. On Tuesday nights in the summer this is where it is "ON" for group training rides. In general the traffic is low and the cars pretty well tolerate us. We used to do a Tuesday time-trial along Route B, 5 miles out and back. Unfortunately growing traffic and safety concerns lead us to cancel that operation (our turn around was across Route B.
Before I came to Columbia a rider (I don't know him) was riding the time trial course down Route B on the shoulder as accustomary, but was riding with his head down and ran smack into an abandoned car and permanently became a quadrapledgic.
Speaking of accidents, I remember one on Route Z that had some humor in it following the shock part. We were traveling as a group, single file, strung out, going full speed (upper 20s) when a dog came charging like a rocket from the left. It was the last rider that was taken out. Steve Fair. He was rendered unconscious and happily he made a full recover later, but we were all pretty shook up. Later the EMT asked Steve a series of mental status questions including: "Do you know who the President is?" Steve did have some memory loss. For example he didn't remember that he drove out the starting point. Steve thought a bit and answered, "I don't remember, but I know it's some asshole!" (he got that right!)
